Lead Full-Stack Engineer (Next.js) - Remote - USA
About Orchid
At Orchid Software Solutions, we strive to provide exceptional software to improve the assisted reproduction technology industry through tailored applications designed to increase efficiencies and transparency for the industry as a whole. Our products handle critical life-changing data.
We are at a pivotal moment of growth. We are moving from "building fast" to "scaling right." We are looking for a Lead Full-Stack Engineer who enjoys the challenge of untangling complex codebases, architecting new standards, and serving as the technical anchor for a high-performing remote team.
The Role: "Player-Coach"
This isn't a hands-off management role. You will be deeply embedded in the code while acting as the primary decision-maker for architecture and delivery. You will be the bridge between technical execution and product vision.
What you will do:
- Architect & Refactor: Lead the effort to "unblur" the lines between front-end and back-end in our Next.js applications, ensuring scalability and clean separation of concerns.
- Lead the Rebuild: Act as the technical driver for migrating legacy systems (Flask/jQuery) into a modern, robust stack (Next.js/Node/TypeScript).
- Be the Bridge: Partner closely with our Product Director to translate complex business logic into production-ready features. You don’t just take orders; you help define the "how" and the "why."
- Mentor & Multiplier: Elevate the team through thoughtful code reviews, pair programming, and setting the "gold standard" for TypeScript and Next.js development.
- Stay Hands-On: Contribute high-quality code to our core products and integrate AI-based assistant features that leverage our internal data.
What We’re Looking For
- 7+ years of experience building and scaling production-grade web applications.
- Next.js Expert: Deep understanding of the App Router, Server Components, and the nuances of SSR/SSG. You know how to keep a Next.js project from becoming a "messy monolith."
- TypeScript Mastery: You believe in type safety and know how to use it to prevent bugs before they happen.
- Business Curiosity: You don’t just output code; you take the initiative to learn the business logic (fertility/escrow/medical disputes) from the ground up.
- Communication First: You can explain technical debt to a Product Manager and architectural trade-offs to a CEO. You are proactive on Slack and don’t "crawl into a shell."
- The "Sparkle": We value creativity over robotic output. You enjoy iterating on solutions and finding elegant ways to solve "boring" CRUD problems.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Prisma, MySQL, and Node.js.
- Curiosity or experience with Python or Go (we are experimenting with Go for performance).
- Familiarity with AWS (Amplify, Lambda, S3) and managing network restrictions for government/medical APIs.
- Background in HealthTech or FinTech (handling sensitive data and money movement).
Why Orchid?
- Real Impact: Your work directly affects outcomes in the fertility and healthcare space.
- Ownership: You will have the authority to make architectural decisions that stick.
- Remote Culture: We are a fully remote team that values autonomy and clear async communication.
- Competitive Package: * Salary: $120k - $180k
- 401(k) Match
- Comprehensive Health, Dental, and Vision insurance.
- PTO (and we actually want you to use it).
- Parental Leave & Professional Development assistance.
Essential Requirements
- Must be located in the United States.
- Must pass a background check.
- Ability to maintain a 6+ hour overlap with US Eastern Time (ET).
