About the Role
As a Medical Records Review Specialist, you will play a critical role in evaluating patients' medical charts to assess surrogate eligibility. You will review records for completeness and accuracy, identify clinical red flags or exclusionary criteria, and communicate your findings to the clinical and collections teams. This is a fully remote, full-time position for a healthcare professional who brings clinical expertise, sharp attention to detail, and the ability to work at pace without sacrificing quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Review patients' complete medical charts to assess eligibility for surrogacy candidacy
- Identify red flags or exclusionary criteria that would prevent a candidate from becoming a surrogate
- Document and summarize clinical findings within HIPAA-compliant, secure software
- Provide direction to the clinical/nurse team or collections team following each review
- Collaborate with your manager to escalate or clarify complex or borderline cases
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all relevant privacy regulations
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in women's health — any of the following: OB/GYN, Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Antepartum, Prenatal, or NICU
- Prior experience reviewing or working with medical records or patient charts (this is required, not optional)
- Strong command of medical terminology and clinical documentation, including shorthand
- English proficiency at C1 level or above — charts are written in English and require precise interpretation
- Ability to work independently, manage volume, and meet deadlines in a fully remote environment
- Knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare privacy regulations
Nice to Have
- Registered Nurse (RN) or LPN credential
- Experience in utilization review or case management
- Background in reproductive medicine or fertility care
- Prior experience working with U.S.-based healthcare organizations
