Technical Lead - US Based (Remote)
About Orchid
At Orchid Software Solutions, we are dedicated to transforming the assisted reproduction, healthcare payments, and fintech industries through software designed to increase efficiency and transparency in life-changing processes. We are at a pivotal moment, moving from "building fast" to "scaling right" at 10x velocity. We are looking for a Senior Tech Lead to take ownership of one of our core product engineering pods, supporting a business-critical financial workflow within our healthcare-payments and fintech platform.
The Role: A Real Lead, Not Just a Senior Engineer
This is a leadership hire first, and a hands-on technical role second. We need someone who can genuinely lead a team, set direction, divide work effectively, mentor, and earn the trust of strong engineers, not simply the most senior coder in the room. You'll take full ownership of architecture, delivery, and team health for a distributed group of senior engineers spanning Latin America and the US.
You'll also be a technical builder: comfortable with code, able to make and defend architectural decisions, and fluent enough in AI-assisted development to set the pace for the team. But the bar for this role is proven people leadership: you've formally managed engineers before, not just been promoted into leading because you wrote the most code.
What You Will Do
- Team Leadership: Directly lead and grow your engineering pod, a distributed team across Latin America and the US. Set technical direction, divide and prioritize work, and run the mentorship, feedback, and career-growth practices a real engineering lead owns.
- Earn the Team's Trust: Step into a team with strong, opinionated senior engineers who expect a lead who can technically hold their own and genuinely listen.
- The SDLC itself: Evolve how this team works — an agile practice that actually fits a distributed pod, and an agentic AI software development lifecycle with real guardrails. Define how work gets specified, reviewed, tested, and shipped when a meaningful share of the code is AI-generated. This is a named deliverable of the role.
- Architectural Rigor: Own the architecture of our Next.js applications that power core case and workflow management, and integrations with external partner platforms, ensuring scalability and a clean separation of frontend/backend concerns.
- Technical Modernization: Drive the migration of legacy systems (Flask/jQuery) into a modern, robust stack (Next.js/Node/TypeScript) across critical business workflows.
- AI Productization: Design and implement RAG architectures and AI agent workflows to optimize case intake, submission review, and reconciliation. In a regulated domain this means governed and auditable by default.
- Data Layer Ownership: Own the pipelines and data layer connecting your platform with client financial systems, lead the optimization of complex PostgreSQL/MySQL queries and ensure infrastructure scales with growth in clinical, legal, and financial records.
- Partnership with Product: You own engineering execution and technical scope; you partner closely with your pod's Product/Project Manager and business stakeholders on sequencing, trade-offs, and what's realistic.
- Delivery & Client Impact: Own the reliability and pace of delivery for a system where accuracy and turnaround time directly affect how our clients experience the platform.
Our Product Ecosystem & Technologies
- Frontend: Next.js (App Router), React, Tailwind CSS, TypeScript.
- Backend & Infra: Node.js, Python, Go, AWS (Lambda, S3, ECS, RDS).
- AI & Data: PostgreSQL (PgVector), MySQL, LangChain, and advanced LLM integrations.
What We're Looking For
- Proven engineering leadership: you've formally led/managed a team of engineers before — this is a must, not a nice-to-have.
- You've led a distributed and blended team — multiple countries, multiple time zones, a mix of employees and agency/contract staff.
- 7+ years building and scaling production-grade web applications, with recent hands-on depth.
- Full-stack with a backend/infra tilt: API design, microservices orchestration, database optimization, plus modern frontend fluency.
- AI-native mindset: you use AI tools daily, and have a point of view on review, testing, security, and cost control when a machine writes a large share of the code.
- High-impact communication: you can defend architectural trade-offs to senior leadership and represent the team credibly in high-stakes conversations.
- Startup grit: you thrive in a fast-moving, ~100-person company.
- Regulated-domain comfort (a plus): healthcare, fintech, or another compliance-heavy domain.
Essential Requirements
- Must be based in the United States.
- Ability to lead and maintain overlap with a distributed team across Latin America and the US.
- Must pass a background check.
Why Orchid?
- Real Impact: your work directly affects how our platform serves clients in high-stakes, regulated environments.
- Ownership: you'll have the authority to make architectural and team decisions that stick.
- Remote Culture: we're a fully remote team that values autonomy and clear async communication.
